Apprenticeship Information
Today’s dwellings are built and wired with the most up to date technology that is always evolving, and needs the highest quality of craftsmen to install these systems correctly, and safely. Who wires these modern construction projects from the ground up? It begins with the Residential Wiremen who install and connect electrical systems in homes, condos, and high-rise apartment buildings.
The ETA of Silicon Valley trains men and women as Residential Apprentices , teaching them how to build a career in the residential electrical industry, and learning how to construct electrical and power distribution systems in a residential environment.
Residential Wireman apprentices complete a three-year training program.
Minimum Requirements RESIDENTIAL WIREMAN APPRENTICE:
Each applicant must:

Be 18 years of age or older, with proof of identification, such as a driver's license or identification card issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles (Must have a valid driver's license at the time of indenture.)

Be a High School graduate or equivalent (Must submit proof i.e. Diploma, GED, etc.)

Applicant will be required to take and pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol test once you are accepted as an apprentice. NO EXCEPTIONS!

* Aptitude tests are held approximately 1-3 months after qualifying as an applicant. Test notification will be sent by mail.
**Oral interview takes about 1-3 months to be scheduled once you pass the Aptitude test. Interview notification will be send by mail.
Residential Wireman REQUIREMENTS & PROCEDURES
Residential Wireman Apprenticeship Requirements:

Must have photo identification; California driver’s license accepted.

Must be at least 18 years old as of the date of application.

Must have a High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.

Proof of diploma or GED must be presented in English when filing application.

Must have valid California Driver’s License prior to being referred to work and a reliable source of transportation.

Must be physically able to do construction work, work at various heights on ladders and in cramped quarters.

Must be able to distinguish colors (i.e. black, red, blue, green, brown, orange, yellow, purple, grey & white.)

Must be able to read, hear and understand verbal instructions and warnings in English.

Must have the ability to wake up early and reach jobsites within our jurisdiction consistently and on-time.

Must be willing to take a placement test.

Individuals who can verify (Social Security report is required for verification) that they have worked a minimum of four
thousand (4,000) hours in electrical construction for a C-10 contractor do not need to meet the requirements of item #3. -
Must have an Active/Valid Email to be notified at any time about your Application.
Procedures:

Qualified applicants will be notified by mail the date, time, and location of testing. It is mandatory to appear as
scheduled. -
The major areas of test battery are: algebraic functions and reading comprehension.

Qualified applicants will be given an oral interview.

Applications are kept for two years.

Job placements are made as openings occur.

Drug screening will precede placement. There is a zero tolerance policy.

Apprentices must purchase schools books and hand tools. There are no fees for apprentice classes.
Characteristics of the Trade:

The trade requires physical effort on the part of the apprentice. Climbing, crouching, working at high locations and in cramped quarters. Mechanical ability and finger dexterity are essential.

Regular attendance at work and class are required.

The apprentice must comply with standards, policies, and procedures.

The hourly wage rate and benefits are subject to the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

There are six (6) pay periods in the apprenticeship. Advancement is based on work hours and completion of school requirements.

Selection of apprentices is made on the basis of qualifications without regard to sex, race, creed, color or national origin.
